Elder Kaden Rosenlund

Dear President Hunter,

I serve as mission president in the California Sacramento Mission.  It’s my privilege to serve with Elder Kaden Rosenlund from your stake.  When I began serving almost a year ago, I vowed that I would occasionally write to stake presidents (with a copy to parents) to tell them about their amazing missionaries.  As stake president, you often hear when a missionary is struggling.  I’m writing to thank you and the Rosenlunds for sending this remarkable missionary to us!

Elder Rosenlund is a true disciple of Jesus Christ.  He is focused, diligent, obedient, and a consecrated representative of the Savior.  He is kind to all around him.  We are so grateful to serve with him.  You may know that I receive a weekly letter from each missionary.  Upon Elder Rosenlund transferring to a new area a few weeks ago, this is what Elder Rosenlund’s companion wrote to me about him not long after the transfer (and I share it with the companion’s permission):

“Elder Rosenlund has been a big lifeline in this operation. He is a gift sent to this mission. To put in perspective how good he is for this area, and this mission, there is an awesome miracle that happened a few nights ago.

We were biking home when we said hi to this guy on the street. We started talking and noticed he was walking funny. He wasn't doing well at all. He had suffered a big injury and was trying to get to a bus stop. Elder Rosenlund got off his bike, and offered (and proceeded to) provide stability for him by helping him walk side-by-side for the half mile it took to the bus stop.

We got to know the man, his name was Maurice, and he had been through a lot. He had been praying for help and he said through tears that we were angels that answered his prayer. The buses weren’t running, as it was late at night, so Elder Rosenlund called him an Uber and helped him home, paying for it himself. No Elder around besides me. No other person besides the three of us. He is a disciple of Jesus Christ. He has the charity of the Savior.”

I was deeply touched when I received this beautiful letter.  We set goals and we track key indicator progress.  Nothing about Elder Rosenlund’s service that night will count against any key indicator goal.  And yet he served exactly as the Savior would.  I am grateful for Elder Rosenlund’s example, and grateful for his companion’s desire and willingness to share it with me.  I agree with Elder Rosenlund’s companion.  He is a “gift sent to this mission.”  Thank you for sharing him with us!

Warmest regards,
